What is NAP consistency?
Definition
NAP consistency means your business name, address, and phone number appear exactly the same on your website, Business Profile, directories, and social profiles.
Search engines assemble their picture of a local business from many sources. When those sources agree, the picture is clear. When one directory has an old address, another abbreviates the name, and a third lists a disconnected number, engines have to decide which is right, and customers may call the wrong one.
The work is unglamorous: pick one exact format for your name, address, and phone number, use it on your site, and update every profile and listing to match. For service-area businesses that hide their address, the same applies to the name, phone number, and service areas. It is one part of entity consistency more broadly: one business, described one way, everywhere it appears. Start with the listings customers use most, then work outward.
Why does it matter to your business?
Inconsistent details make a business look less certain to search engines and less reliable to customers. Fixing them is tedious, cheap, and lasting.
