The Entity-First Method
How I plan, draft, and edit content so it ranks in Google, can be quoted by AI answer engines, and reads like a person who knows the subject wrote it. Documented in full, because none of it is a secret.
What is the Entity-First Method?
The Entity-First Method is a three-layer content process: research the entities a topic is made of, draft with AI for speed, then edit every page by hand for accuracy, voice, and first-hand expertise. The order is the point. Structure comes before drafting, and editing always comes last.
- LAYER 1 Entity research Entity map + page plan
- LAYER 2 AI drafting Complete first drafts
- LAYER 3 Editorial pass Accurate, on-brand pages
What happens in each layer?
Each layer has one job, one output, and one failure it exists to prevent.
-
Layer 1
Entity research
Before anything is written, I map what the topic is made of: the entities a knowledgeable reader expects, the questions people actually search and prompt, what already ranks, and what the business can speak to from first-hand experience. Those become a page plan: which pages to build, the one search each should win, and how they will link.
- What it produces
- An entity map and a page plan, with every page's job, target search, and links decided in advance.
- What it prevents
- Disconnected posts that chase unrelated phrases and add up to nothing.
-
Layer 2
AI drafting
Language models draft each page from that plan. This is where AI is fastest and least risky: the structure, the subject, and the entities are already fixed, so the model fills in a known shape instead of deciding what the page is about. Drafts cover the topic completely in days rather than weeks.
- What it produces
- Complete first drafts that follow the plan. Nothing is published at this stage.
- What it prevents
- Slow, patchy coverage that never gets deep enough to earn authority.
-
Layer 3
Editorial pass
Every draft is edited by hand. Facts and figures are checked against primary sources, and anything that cannot be traced is cut. The piece is rewritten in the client's voice, restructured so each section opens with a direct answer, and given the first-hand detail and judgment a model cannot supply. Structured data and internal links go in last, matched to what the page actually says.
- What it produces
- Accurate, on-brand pages that answer clearly, cite their sources, and are ready to publish.
- What it prevents
- Robotic AI copy, confident errors, and pages that rank but convert nobody.

How can you apply it to one page yourself?
You can apply the method to a single page in an afternoon, with free tools that run in your browser.
-
1
Pick one page and name its one subject
Write the single search you want it to win. If you cannot name one, the page is doing too many jobs.
Check the page with the Entity SEO Analyzer -
2
Make every section open with its answer
Rewrite headings as the questions people ask and answer each in the first sentence.
Grade each section with the AEO Checker -
3
Cut the repetition and the filler
Say the subject naturally, then stop. Remove stock AI phrasing wherever it crept in.
Find the tells with the AI Content Tell Checker -
4
Check every fact against its source
Link claims to the primary source, with a date. Delete what you cannot trace.
-
5
Link it to the pages around it
Link up to the page it supports and across to the pages that answer the next question.
The worked example
How does this site apply the method to itself?
JNAbear.com applies the method to itself, so you can check every claim above on the page you are reading.
-
One name for every entity
JNAbear, Joseph Nicholas Abear, and the Entity-First Method are written the same way in the copy, the structured data, and the profiles it points to.
-
One connected graph
Every page describes the business, its founder, and itself in a single structured-data graph, with every reference resolving.
-
Answers first
Headings are phrased as questions and each section opens with its answer. The home page passes its own AEO Checker.
-
Sources you can follow
Every statistic links to a primary source with a date, and the glossary cites the source for every claim about Google or an AI company.
Questions about the method
People ask me these questions about the method before they hire me, so here are the plain answers.
It is SEO, done in a particular order. The name describes the order: entities and structure first, drafting second, editing last. Most content goes wrong by drafting first and trying to fix the structure afterwards.
No. AI drafting is the middle layer, never the last one. Every page is edited by hand for accuracy, voice, and first-hand detail before it is published.
Yes. The one-page version on this page uses free tools and needs no special software. Hiring me buys the research depth and editing time, not a secret process.
Search engines and AI answer engines interpret meaning and recognize things, not just matching words. Planning around entities makes a page clear about what it is, and keywords still get used because people still type them.
