What is entity-based SEO?
Also called Entity SEO.
Definition
Entity-based SEO is organizing a website around clearly defined entities, so search engines and AI systems understand exactly what, and who, each page is about.
Keyword SEO asks which phrases a page should contain. Entity-based SEO asks what the page is about and how that thing relates to others. In practice it means using one exact name for each entity everywhere, covering the related entities a knowledgeable reader expects, declaring the main ones in structured data, and linking related pages so the relationships are visible to readers and machines alike.
It does not replace keywords. People still type words, and pages still need the words people use. Entity work makes sure those words resolve to the right thing: that a service named on a service page and mentioned in an article is understood as the same service, offered by the same business, delivered by the same person.
Why does it matter to your business?
AI answer engines assemble answers from sources they can confidently attribute. A site whose entities are clear and consistent is easier to attribute, and so easier to cite by name.
